The bell rings at
but most caregivers won't get home for hours.

For some families, that window is manageable. For kids navigating poverty, a new country, or a home that can’t always be what they need. It’s three of the most valuable hours of the day.

It goes beyond supervision. Poverty shapes how kids see themselves: their access to extracurriculars, their performance in school, and their sense of what's possible.

And the single most powerful change? One consistent adult who shows up and treats them like they matter.

We equip the local church to meet a local need

Afternoon Adventures is a registered nonprofit that connects churches with the public schools in their neighbourhoods and equips them with the programming they need to support kids after the bell rings.

Afternoon Adventures Programs

When you start an Afternoon Adventures program, you meet a real need for kids in our community, every week.

Kids

This age is when kids begin to shape their belonging and confidence in their community. It's why the presence of a consistent, caring adult outside the home can change everything.

We show up every week, from 2nd grade through 5th, walking alongside kids from the time they're seven until they're ready for middle school.

Hang Out Program

By middle school, most kids are figuring out who they are, what they’re worth, and whether anyone actually cares. We think that’s exactly when someone should show up.

Hang Out is where grade 6-8 students find a place to belong: and consistent adults prove, week after week, that they do.

A note from our Founder

Jannette Loosdrecht, Founder & Program Director

Fifteen years ago we showed up at Bernard Elementary with nothing but a willing team and a belief that kids in our community deserved better. We didn't have a handbook. We didn't have a plan. We just said yes, and showed up week after week for the kids who needed it.

That's still what we do. And after fifteen years, a word of encouragement, a high five, a warm hug, we're now witnessing the profound impact of sustained support on families, and it's truly remarkable.

Today, as a registered nonprofit, we're ready to take that same model and bring it to every community in Chilliwack and beyond: one church, one school, one kid at a time.
